Jackson & Schwab Technologies is an emerging deep-tech company developing hardware for sustainable lunar infrastructure and off-world industry. Our work focuses on extracting usable resources from lunar regolith and converting locally available material into products that would otherwise need to be launched from Earth.
We are building a multidisciplinary engineering team around high-temperature electrochemistry, advanced materials, thermal systems, and space hardware. Head of EngineeringIntegration and execution
THE ROLE
As Head of Engineering, you will own integration and execution across the company — turning our oxygen-production process into an integrated, tested system and building the small team that makes it happen.
This is a full-time, on-site role based in Leicester, UK, commencing following the completion of the company's financing round. It is a hands-on leadership position: you will set the technical roadmap from laboratory rig to integrated demonstrator, then work at the bench to make it real.
You will establish the engineering cadence — requirements, design reviews, and test discipline — hire the founding engineering team, and make the technical calls when data is incomplete, owning the consequences.
QUALIFICATIONS
- At least eight years on complex hardware programmes, including several leading engineers or teams
- A track record shipping integrated electromechanical or process systems
- Experience carrying systems from requirements through design review, test, and iteration
- Comfort being the most senior technical voice in the room
- Ability to recruit, develop, and retain a small, high-calibre engineering team
- Hands-on instincts — you are still happy at a test stand
PARTICULARLY VALUABLE EXPERIENCE

Founding Electrochemical EngineerCore oxygen-production process
THE ROLE
As Founding Electrochemical Engineer — Lunar Infrastructure, you will own the core electrochemical process used to extract oxygen from lunar regolith.
This is a full-time, on-site role based in Leicester, UK, commencing following the completion of the company's financing round. You will work hands-on to design, build, instrument, and operate high-temperature electrochemical cells using lunar-regolith simulants.
You will lead cell architecture, electrode geometry, operating conditions, and the selection of electrode, electrolyte, refractory, and containment materials. You will plan and execute experimental campaigns measuring oxygen yield, current efficiency, energy consumption, materials degradation, and process stability.
You will be responsible for producing repeatable, defensible performance data and translating experimental results into successive hardware iterations. Working closely with mechanical, thermal, process, and controls engineers, you will ensure that electrochemical requirements are incorporated into the wider system design.
As a founding engineer, you will also help establish laboratory capabilities, safety procedures, test protocols, documentation standards, technical roadmaps, and the future electrochemistry team. What you establish at the bench will become the process we scale and ultimately fly.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Degree in Electrochemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Chemistry, Physics, or a closely related discipline
- At least three years of practical experience designing, building, and testing electrochemical cells or reactors
- Strong grounding in electrochemical engineering, including electrode behaviour, reaction kinetics, mass transport, current efficiency, and materials degradation
- Hands-on experience operating laboratory equipment and executing controlled experimental campaigns
- Experience selecting materials for high-temperature, corrosive, reactive, or otherwise harsh operating environments
- Ability to design experimental setups, select instrumentation, establish data-acquisition methods, and troubleshoot complex performance issues
- Proficiency with technical data analysis and modelling tools such as Python, MATLAB, or equivalent platforms
- Ability to produce clear, reproducible, and defensible technical documentation
- Strong laboratory discipline and a serious approach to experimental and oxygen-system safety
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively across mechanical, thermal, process, and controls disciplines
- Comfort working hands-on in an early-stage hardware company where requirements and designs will evolve through testing
PARTICULARLY VALUABLE EXPERIENCE
- Molten-oxide or molten-salt electrolysis
- Oxygen-evolution reactions or inert-anode development
- Refractory, ceramic, or precious-metal electrode systems
- High-temperature electrochemical reactors
- Experimental work involving regolith, slags, silicate melts, or metallurgical processes
- Scaling electrochemical technology from laboratory experiments toward pilot operation
- Familiarity with lunar resources, in-situ resource utilisation, or the broader ISRU literature
Mechanical/Thermal EngineerHardware and test infrastructure
THE ROLE
As Mechanical/Thermal Engineer, you will own the hardware and test infrastructure around the core process — the reactors, rigs, and laboratory systems that turn chemistry into engineering evidence.
This is a full-time, on-site role based in Leicester, UK, commencing following the completion of the company's financing round. You will design and build reactor hardware, vacuum systems, and test rigs, and own thermal design for high-temperature cells — insulation, heat paths, and cooling.
You will help stand up the Leicester test laboratory — data acquisition, safety systems, and procedures — support every experimental campaign, and iterate hardware rapidly from CAD through machining, assembly, and commissioning.
QUALIFICATIONS
- At least three years of hands-on mechanical design experience that reached working hardware
- Solid thermal analysis — hand calculations first, FEA where it earns its keep
- Experience with vacuum systems and/or high-temperature hardware
- Ability to design test setups, select instrumentation, and troubleshoot hardware in the loop
- Workshop self-sufficiency — comfortable machining, assembling, and commissioning your own designs
- Comfort in an early-stage hardware company where designs evolve through testing
PARTICULARLY VALUABLE EXPERIENCE
- Test-infrastructure bring-up at a startup or research laboratory
- Cryogenic, furnace, or aerospace test experience
- Design for harsh environments — thermal cycling, corrosive atmospheres, oxygen safety
